When the cruise jetty was complete by some 60%, hurricane Omar hit the Island in mid October 2008 without any warning from the South American coast. It severely damaged the Cruise jetty structure, sending beams and slabs to the sea-bottom and causing damage beyond repair, resulting in a delay to the construction works of some 3.5 months. (ref.
